Scrolling Captions With Windows/VLC Media Player

How do I get scrolling text to display with playback in Windows Media Player? For each media file you have, you’ll also have a SMI file (pronounced “Sammi”)  which allows synchronized transcript playback as subtitles. To enable subtitles within Windows Media Player requires two steps (Windows Media Player 10 and later):

1.) Select “On if Available” from the Play>Captions and Subtitles menu
2.) Select “Show Local Captions When Present” from the Tools>Options>Security tab.

Note: the SMI file must have the same filename as the video file and be in the same directory as the video file.

NOTE: VLC Option — You can also use the VLC player which will automatically display the synchronized (.smi) captions if the media files and smi files are in the same folder.
